TRE Dictionary

High-Value Item

A high-value item is an article whose value exceeds a threshold established by the moving contract, valuation program, or carrier rules and may require special declaration or documentation.

In plain English

Expensive jewelry, art, collectibles, antiques, electronics, or other valuable belongings may need extra attention before the move.

Why it matters

For interstate household-goods moves under Full Value Protection, FMCSA guidance discusses special treatment for articles of extraordinary value and the importance of declaring them appropriately. Failure to identify valuable items can affect documentation, handling, valuation, and claims.

TRE common-language definition

High-Value Item: An item whose value triggers additional declaration, documentation, protection, or handling requirements under the applicable move terms.
