## Transit Time

**Transit time** is the elapsed transportation period between pickup and delivery, or between defined points in the shipment journey.

### In plain English

It is how long the shipment takes to move through the transportation network.

### Why it matters

Transit time can be affected by distance, routing, consolidation, capacity, weather, regulations, storage, and delivery scheduling. It should not be confused with a guaranteed delivery appointment.

> **Transit Time:** The transportation duration between defined shipment milestones, distinct from a guaranteed delivery appointment.
