## Storage

**Storage** is the keeping of goods at a facility or other agreed location between handling, transportation, or use. In a move, the specific storage arrangement determines custody, charges, access, and how the goods are released.

### In plain English

“The goods are going into storage” leaves important questions unanswered: where, for how long, under whose agreement, at what cost, and how will final delivery happen?

### Who this affects

Customer · Coordinator · Carrier · Warehouse · Delivery provider

### Where this sits in the move

Planning → Intake → Storage → Release → Final delivery

### Stakeholder perspectives

The customer needs flexibility and clarity; the warehouse needs a custody record and release authority; the carrier and coordinator need timing and delivery instructions.

### Responsibility and handoff

Confirm the location, inventory, condition record, duration, rate basis, handling charges, access rules, protection terms, and delivery arrangements. Identify who authorizes release and who manages any change in the storage agreement.

### Common misunderstanding

[Storage-in-transit](https://relocationecosystem.com/storage-in-transit/) and [permanent storage](https://relocationecosystem.com/permanent-storage/) are not interchangeable. Do not assume the same contract, time limits, protection, or final-delivery charges apply to both.

### TRE common-language definition

> Storage: The documented custody of goods at an agreed location under defined duration, access, charging, protection, and release terms.
