## Storage-in-Transit

**Storage-in-transit** is temporary storage of a shipment while it remains connected to the moving or transportation service before final delivery.

### In plain English

The goods are stored between pickup and delivery because the destination is not ready, delivery cannot occur immediately, or the move plan calls for temporary storage.

### Why it matters

Storage duration, warehouse handling, charges, final delivery, liability, and conversion to longer-term storage can be governed differently from ordinary permanent storage. For interstate household-goods moves, applicable tariffs and transportation documents may define the terms and limits of storage-in-transit.

### Who this affects

Customer · Coordinator · Warehouse · Carrier

### Where this sits in the move

Transit → Temporary storage → Final delivery

### Stakeholder perspectives

The customer needs to know why storage is needed and how delivery will resume.

### Responsibility and handoff

Confirm location, time limits, charges, custody records, protection terms, and any conversion to permanent storage.

### Common misunderstanding

Temporary storage is not automatically indefinite storage. Conversion may change terms and responsibilities.

### TRE common-language definition

> **Storage-in-Transit:** Temporary storage of a shipment as part of an ongoing relocation before final delivery, under the applicable move and tariff terms.
