## Specialty Item

A **specialty item** is an article requiring handling, equipment, packing, expertise, permits, or planning beyond ordinary household-goods service.

### In plain English

Pianos, safes, oversized art, machinery, fragile stone, hot tubs, and unusually large or valuable items are common examples.

### Why it matters

Specialty items can change crew requirements, equipment, access planning, pricing, risk, crating, and third-party needs. They should be identified during the survey whenever practical so the operating plan matches the actual item.

### TRE common-language definition

> **Specialty Item:** An item whose size, weight, value, fragility, or technical requirements demand handling beyond standard move procedures.
