**TRE Dictionary**

## PBO

**PBO** commonly means **Packed by Owner** and identifies cartons or goods packed by the customer rather than by the mover.

### In plain English

The customer prepared the carton before the moving crew handled it.

### Why it matters

The mover may have limited visibility into the contents, packing method, internal condition, or adequacy of protection inside a PBO carton. That can matter when responsibility for loss or damage is later evaluated.

### TRE common-language definition

> **PBO:** A shipment carton or package packed by the customer rather than by the moving company.
