## Intrastate Move

An **intrastate move** transports household goods within one state and is not part of an interstate shipment. Same-state endpoints alone do not settle jurisdiction: the route and the shipment’s wider movement matter.

### In plain English

Confirm the whole shipment stays within the applicable state framework. A local delivery can finish an interstate shipment; a route between two points in one state can pass through another. [FMCSA jurisdiction guidance](https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/consumer-protection/protect-your-move/are-you-moving/what-interstate-move?ref=relocationecosystem.com).

### Why it matters

Pricing rules, required documents, claims standards, registration and consumer protections can differ from interstate requirements. A long trip can still be intrastate; “local” and “full service” answer different questions.

### Who this affects and where it sits

Customer · Estimator · Carrier · Coordinator · Crew. Establish jurisdiction during planning, before the estimate and booking, and preserve it through any storage or delivery handoff.

### Responsibility and handoff

The customer supplies the complete route and shipment history. The carrier explains the applicable authority, documents and pricing framework. The coordinator passes those details and any changes to the people performing the move.

### Common misunderstanding

“It starts and finishes in the same state, so only state rules can apply.” Ask for clarification when the route or wider shipment crosses a boundary.

### TRE common-language definition

> Intrastate Move: Household-goods transportation within one state under the applicable state framework, distinct from an interstate shipment.
