- Description: D containers are a transport-packaging format. Understand inside versus outside dimensions and the loading, pricing and handoff details to confirm.

**A D container is a named corrugated transport-packaging format used for smaller shipments, including household goods shipped by air.** The label identifies a packaging option; it does not establish a universal capacity, accepted load or transportation price.

## A D container size example

Delta Packaging lists a four-piece, double-wall D container with a wood pallet. Its example has inside dimensions of 55⅜ × 38½ × 39½ inches and outside dimensions of 58 × 41 × 45 inches. Other configurations are offered. Confirm the exact product and assembled measurements for your shipment.

## Why inside and outside measurements matter

Inside dimensions help the packing team assess fit. Outside dimensions describe the space the assembled package occupies. Neither figure should be substituted for the other when preparing the packing plan or checking the freight quote.

Ask the forwarder to explain the shipment’s pricing basis, including any dimensional calculation, minimum charge and packaging weight. Do not assume that buying one D container fixes the transportation cost.

## D container or LDN container?

Compare the actual package specifications. In the supplier examples used here, the D container is longer and narrower inside than the [LDN container](https://relocationecosystem.com/ldn-container/). Item shape, protective packing and the permitted load matter alongside volume. Ask the packing team to confirm fit and the forwarder to confirm the assembled package and price.

## Questions before packing

- Which specification and pallet are included?
- What is the permitted loaded weight?
- Will protected items fit through the opening and within the usable space?
- Who confirms acceptance by the carrier and destination requirements?
- How will the inventory, package identification and destination instructions stay connected?

## Proposed TRE common-language definition

D container: a specified D-format transport package, with its usable dimensions, outside dimensions, construction and loading limits confirmed for the planned shipment.
