## Certified Weight Ticket

A **certified weight ticket** is a scale record documenting a vehicle or shipment weight measured on a certified scale for shipment-weight determination.

### In plain English

It is the written evidence behind the tare, gross, and net weights used to determine shipment weight.

### Why it matters

For required weighings of covered interstate household-goods shipments, [49 CFR 375.519](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/section-375.519?ref=relocationecosystem.com) requires the weigh master to sign the weight tickets. A separate ticket is generally required for each weighing; when both weighings use the same scale, one ticket may record both.

### What to check

- Complete name and location of the scale.
- Date of each weighing.
- Identification of tare, gross or net entries.
- Carrier or company identification of the vehicle.
- The shipper’s last name as shown on the bill of lading.
- The shipment registration or bill-of-lading number.
- The weigh master’s signature.

The carrier retains the original records. True copies of all tickets used to determine shipment weight must accompany freight bills presented to collect weight-dependent charges.

### From measurement to billing

Check that the tickets describe the correct shipment and a valid pair of measurements. For example, 24,600 pounds gross minus 18,200 pounds tare gives 6,400 pounds net. A ticket establishes weight evidence; it does not by itself establish the applicable rate or replace the estimate.

Ask how any [tariff](https://relocationecosystem.com/tariff/) minimum or rate rule affects the bill without changing the measured net weight. For observation and reweigh rights, including the deadline before unloading an origin-weighed shipment, see the [Shipment Weight guide](https://relocationecosystem.com/shipment-weight-guide/).

### TRE common-language definition
