## Capacity

**Capacity** is the amount of transportation, labor, warehouse, equipment, or schedule availability an operation can reliably provide.

### In plain English

It answers: how much work can we actually handle, where, and when?

### Why it matters

Selling more work than available trucks, crews, warehouse space, or linehaul resources can create delays, service failures, and margin pressure.

### TRE common-language definition

> **Capacity:** The available operational resources required to accept and execute relocation work within service commitments.

### Trailer Space

Trailer space is the physical space available or allocated inside a trailer. It is one part of capacity. A truck can have room left while another constraint—such as permitted weight, loading arrangement, crew availability or delivery commitments—limits what can be accepted.

If a quote reserves space, identify whether the commitment is stated in cubic feet, linear feet, containers or another unit. Record the usable width and height assumptions, any excluded space, and what happens if the shipment changes. Reserved space and [Exclusive Use](https://relocationecosystem.com/exclusive-use/) should be defined separately.

### Who needs the same information?

The estimator needs the included goods and packing assumptions. Dispatch needs suitable equipment, available crews and the route schedule. The driver and loading team need the actual load plan. A capacity commitment should connect those records rather than depend on a room count alone.

### Practical check

Ask: what resource is being reserved, for which shipment, on which dates, and what change would require the plan to be revised? Compare [Volume](https://relocationecosystem.com/volume/), [GVW and GVWR](https://relocationecosystem.com/gross-vehicle-weight-gvw-gvwr/) and [Tier](https://relocationecosystem.com/tier/) for the different measurements involved.
